She and her husband decided to look for opportunities to succeed, considering that they had tremendous potential in terms of youth, good health, and her strong desire for an additional livelihood apart from being just a housewife. Her husband has worked the land all his life, where his work enables him to support the household.
Both saw the need for one of the two to find a way of generating a bit more income, and an opportunity arose for Javy to take a beauty salon course offered by FUDEIMFA, the technical arm of the COMIXMUL cooperative. Thanks to this opportunity, she learned to fend for herself in a different way. She trained in cutting men's and women's hair. Currently she goes from house to house, serving people of all ages, with only two pairs of scissors, a cape and two combs.
Javy is now requesting help to buy tools and supplies for work, such as a hair dryer and hair iron, a chair, mirrors, a table, capes, combs and brushes. In the community where she lives, they installed electricity six months ago, which makes it easier for her to provide her services.
Her dream is to have a beauty salon that can generate income, so that she can help her husband with the basic household expenses and other costs that arise daily. She also hopes to begin saving so that she can give her son a better future. This is so that he will have better opportunities then they had, and can excel.
More information about this loan
These loans are designed for young Honduran women between ages 16 and 29 who want to start their own businesses to launch their careers. COMIXMUL offers training sessions through its sister organization FUDEIMFA that will culminate in clients writing their own business plans and receiving their first loans. The main difference between this product and other COMIXMUL loans is that the institution normally requires the client to already have an established business in order to be eligible for a loan. However, COMIXMUL is waiving this requirement for young women who attend the training sessions.
