Simona is an enterprising woman. She, her husband, and their four children grow potatoes. She has extensive experience in this work that she learned more than 20 years ago. This livelihood was taught her by her parents, whom she is grateful to for having given her and instilled in her, respect for her neighbor, and love of God and family. Most importantly in this life, they taught her to work.

Simona has a primary school education and went as far as 4th grade. But with a great deal of effort she has enabled her children to continue studying. Today she has the help of her husband and of their children, who are grateful for the parents' efforts.

Their crop is marketed and sold through the middlemen in the local market. Currently, part of the land that Simona uses for growing potatoes is rented, and in order to reach their farmland they walk for approximately an hour.

Simona is currently requesting help in order to buy seeds and agricultural supplies for growing potatoes, work that has enabled her and her family to move forward in life. She has been able to provide her children with education, food and clothing.

Simona's dream is to be able to buy a piece of land that can be properly farmed, where they can raise their crops, and this way obtain profits that will be completely their own, and help their business grow. This will enable them to have a better standard of living and ensure that their children can continue going to school.

More information about this loan

These loans are designed for female farmers who produce a variety of products (onion, garlic, eggplant, spinach, mango, strawberries, etc.). Loan terms will vary depending on need, and borrowers can choose to make a "bullet" payment timed with harvest profits. Agricultural loans are considered risky in Honduras due to external forces like unpredictable weather and worldwide crop prices. As a result, many traditional financial institutions are unwilling to offer these loans. With Kiva funding, COMIXMUL will be able to reach more borrowers with agricultural loans tailored to their needs.
