Joan lives in Kampala, Uganda. She is single with two children and one of them attends school. She does not look after any other family members.
Joan has been operating a salon for six years, working six days a week. She does not have any other source of income.
Joan has requested a loan of UGX 300,000 from MCDT-SACCO to enable her to stock more hair oils, artificial hair, and rollers, and to replace old towels. Her challenges include seasonality, transport, and the unstable electricity supply. Joan's dream is to own a big beauty and recreation center and to train one of her children to follow suit. She joined MCDT because of the low interest charged on loans. Joan lives in a house that she does not rent, with access to electricity and no piped water. Her major monthly expenses include rent for her business premises and school fees.
