Theouy, 55 years old, lives in a rural area of the Moung Russey district in Cambodia. She is a widow and a mother of three children. She earns her living through farming rice on a two-hectare plot, earning around 29,000 KHR daily. This will be Theouy’s sixth time requesting a loan via Kiva’s partner, VisionFund. The previous loans have enabled her to meet her family’s needs. Theouy is now in need of money to buy fertilizer to help keep her rice-growing business in good shape. Thus, she is now seeking a 2,500,000 KHR loan with VisionFund. After receiving and using the requested loan as planned, Theouy believes that her rice field will provide her with good quality crops so that she can sell the rice for a good price, generating more profit for the family.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
