Lo is a villager from a rural area located in the Battambang province’s Moung Russey district. He is 42 years old and married with four children, all of whom are dependents and still in school. He earns a living through selling ice cream while his wife raises pigs to earn additional income for the family. They have been in this business for two years, earning about 35,000 KHR per day to meet the family’s needs.
Lo is in his first microloan with Kiva’s partner, VisionFund. He is applying for a loan of 2,000,000 KHR. With this loan, he is going to use his portion to buy material for producing ice cream to sell. He hopes to earn more income for his family so as to improve their standard of living and keep his children in school.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
