Mourreen is aged 29. She is a farmer in Kitale county in Kenya, where she lives with her husband and two children who are all schooling. She has been in farming for the past three years, producing poultry and horticultural products that she sells at the local market in her area. She sells second-hand clothes as an additional source of income.
She is requesting a 50,000 KES (Kenyan shillings) loan from Juhudi Kilimo to purchase poultry birds. This will give her more produce and help her earn extra income, which will help boost her family's livelihood and pay for her children's schooling. She aspires to have increased her poultry birds to 2,000 birds in the next five years.
Diseases and the high costs of feeds are her major challenges in farming.
Mourreen is grateful to Juhudi Kilimo for its continuous support for its clients.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
