For the past 8 years Shiella Mae, a 23-year-old married resident of Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur, Philippines, has raised a variety of crabs to sell. Along with other irregular sources of income, she earns PHP 16,000 a month. Shiella Mae is requesting for a loan of PHP 40,000 from GDMPC to purchase additional crabs to raise. This year she expects to reap a good harvest and obtain a very favorable price for her crabs.
Gata Daku Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GDMPC) was founded in 1992 by 32 farmer-members to empower people by providing livelihood opportunities and other support services. Today, it has over 15,000 members located in upland, lowland and coastal regions of the Philippines, and offers credit, savings, education, and various social services.
