Claire, 26, is a farmer in Kitale County, Kenya, where she lives with her husband and one child, who is in school. She has been farming for the past nine years, producing milk, horticultural and poultry products which she sells at the local market in her area. She owns a welding workshop as an additional source of income.
She is requesting a 52,000 KES loan from Juhudi Kilimo to buy and insure a dairy cow which will give her more milk produce and earn her extra income that will help boost her family's livelihood and pay for her child's education. She aspires to have adopted the modern way of doing dairy farming within the next five years.
Unreliable rainfall and the high cost of production are her major challenges in farming.
She is grateful to Juhudi Kilimo for funding her with this loan.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
