Esinyen is a 36-year-old farmer in the county of Kitale in Kenya where he lives with his wife and three school-going children. He has been in farming for the past four years producing milk, vegetables, maize, beans and poultry products, which he sells at the local market in his area.
He is requesting a 61,200 KES loan from Juhudi Kilimo to purchase poultry birds and to also buy and insure a dairy cow. This will give him more products and help him earn more income to uplift his family's living standards. He will use some of the money to pay for his children's school fees. He plans to buy two more dairy cows in the next five years.
Diseases and poor markets for his products are his major challenges in farming.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
