Milka, 45, is a farmer in Kitale county in Kenya where she lives with her husband and four children who are all in school. She has been farming for the past ten years, producing milk, horticultural products and poultry products which she sells at the local market in her area. She owns a motorbike for a transportation business as an additional source of income.
She is requesting for 41,600 KES loan from Juhudi Kilimo to buy and insure a dairy cow which will produce more milk and earn her extra income to uplift her living standards. She will use some of the money to pay her children's school fees. She aspires to have expanded her farm by two more acres of land in the next five years.
High costs of inputs and fluctuating market prices are her major challenges in farming.
She is grateful to Juhudi Kilimo for funding her with the loan.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
