Sherlita is 44 years old, married and has four children. She lives in Water Fall, Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur. For the past seven years Sherlita has woven nipa palm fronds into mats that are used as roofing materials. Every month she earns 6,000 PHP from this business. Sherlita became a member of GDMPC in 2011. She has requested a loan of 10,000 PHP to buy the materials needed to make more nipa palm roofing. She hopes to improve and expand her business with the anticipated profits.
Gata Daku Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GDMPC) was founded in 1992 by 32 farmer-members to empower people by providing livelihood opportunities and other support services. Today, it has over 15,000 members located in upland, lowland and coastal regions of the Philippines, and offers credit, savings, education, and various social services.
