Living in a rural village of Pursat province's Kror Kor district in Cambodia, Sophea is 27 years of age and married. She has a daughter who is still dependent on her and too young to attend school. Sophea and her husband support the family through designing wedding invitation cards. Most of her clients are local residents. The lack of working capital has been a big challenge for her business. Sophea is now seeking a KHR 2,000,000 loan for the first time with VisionFund (Kiva's partner) to purchase a photocopier machine to support her business. Sophea hopes to smoothly operate her business and generate more income for her family. This industrious mother is also willing to utilize her anticipated income to send her only daughter to a good school in the future.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
