Residing in a rural area of the Kror Kor district in Cambodia’s Pursat province, Sreymao is 22 years of age and married. She is blessed with a son who is still under her responsibility and too young for schooling. To support the family, Sreymao works as a rice farmer while her husband works as a paid worker to complement the family’s income. Together, they are able to earn around 5 USD and save approximately 3 USD after canceling out the daily expenses.
This will be Sreymao’s second time requesting loan via Kiva’s partner, VisionFund. With the previous loan, she was able to cover household expenses. Now, Sreymao is applying for a USD 1,010 loan to purchase a cow to support her rice-growing business. This hard-working mother (Sreymao) would love to be able to send her only son to a good school in the future and generate more income for the family.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
