Yovan is a 70-year-old, married man, living in Masindi, Uganda. For sixteen years now, he has been operating a hardware shop and he started the business after realizing that farming alone could not help him meet his family's needs. His dreams are to build a permanent residential house, since he lives in a semi-permanent dwelling, and to expand his hardware shop to new markets. Yovan intends to use the loan to buy construction materials, such as cement and sand, for his house.
About Housing Loans
Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
