Vali A. is a 47-year-old farmer whose main activity for many years has been calf breeding for meat production. He is married and has three children. Vali lives in the southern region of Bilasuvar. Meat is very popular across Azerbaijan and people use it in their everyday cuisine. To expand his business, Vali has applied for a loan of $800 USD to purchase two calves for an estimated $400 USD each.
Aqroinvest Credit Union was founded by a group of 32 Imishli farmers in 2001, and has grown to become one of the largest credit unions in Azerbaijan. It boasts a portfolio of nearly $5 million and is wholly owned by its more than 3,500 borrowers, as of December 2011.
