A citizen from a rural village in Kampong Cham province’s Ponhea Krek district, Chanthy is 31 years old and married. She has two children to take care of, one of whom is still in school and one is too young for school. To feed her family, she has worked hard as a rice farmer for two years and supplements the income by planting beans and raising ducks. The current business earns her about 57,000 KHR per day and she manages her to save about 20,000 KHR each day after daily expenses.
Chanthy has been with VisionFund for two cycles and completely paid back the past loans, which have helped her to better support her family with enough food. Now she is seeking another loan of 3,000,000 KHR to buy more ducks to raise. She hopes to fatten her ducks and sell them for a good price to increase her family’s income.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
