Peter, 30, is a farmer in Kitale County, Kenya, where he lives with his wife and three children who are all in school. He has been farming for the past five years, producing milk, vegetables and eggs which he sells at the local market in his area.
He is requesting for 41,600 KES loan from Juhudi Kilimo to buy and insure a dairy cow which will provide him with more milk that will generate extra income to help him improve his living standards. He will use some of the money to pay school fees for his children, too. He aspires to have four dairy cows and be one of the main milk suppliers in his area.
The high cost of animal feed is his major challenge in farming.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
