Claudia Cristina
Claudia is 37 years old and lives in the city of Nazca with her three children. She loves her three children and says they are her main reason for living. Sadly, she suffered the loss of her beloved husband, and since then she has dedicated all of her efforts to providing for her family. Regrettably, although she would have liked very much to study a professional career, she was not able to do so because of a lack of economic resources and needing to work to cover her expenses.

In her free moments Claudia likes to watch television, and on certain occasions she cooks a delicious Seco de Res [a cilantro beef stew] to share with her family.

On her own initiative and with a lot of effort and determination, Claudia works in her small food stall, where she sells delicious kebabs, tripe and liver, among other things. She works everyday for approximately six hours. Claudia feels comfortable while working her business, which she thinks does well because she is a good cook and treats her clients with kindness.

Claudia is very grateful to Kiva lenders because thanks to their support she will be able to buy construction materials. She will use these to build the front part and façade of her home, which currently consists of straw matting. In this way, Claudia will be able to increase her family’s security and welfare, and she will continue working and striving to achieve her greatest dream, which is to have her own restaurant.

About Caja Rural Señor de Luren

Caja Rural Señor de Luren is a microfinance institution based in Ica in southern Peru that primarily promotes the development of the country’s agricultural sector through lending. Today, it also offers credit for consumers, microenterprises and housing improvements, and has expanded its financial services to promote micro-savings and provide micro-insurance. This institution has been instrumental in helping borrowers recover from the devastating earthquake in the Ica region in 2007, and works with Peru’s National Bank to reach some of the poorest and most remote microfinance clients in the country.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
