A villager named Jis resides in Kampong Cham province’s Dambae district in Cambodia. She is a 31-year-old married woman and a mother of two school-aged children, both of whom are her responsibility. Jis supports her family through planting cassava and selling grocery items.
This will be her sixth time requesting a loan via VisionFund (Kiva’s partner). The previous loans have helped her to gradually support her family and to satisfy her customers by enabling her to buy more grocery items to sell. Now Jis is seeking a 4,000,000 KHR loan to support her cassava-planting business by purchasing fertilizer and pesticide. She will also use her loan portion to buy rice to sell in hopes of generating more income for the family.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
