Update on María De Lourdes

In the seaside city of San Clemente, in the Sucre canton, the Community Bank 1 de Diciembre meets fortnightly. This place is known for its beautiful beaches that are visited by many national and foreign tourists. It offers variety of beautiful places and a rich variety of typical dishes of the region.

In this place lives María, who is 48 years old, is married and has three children who are adults, two of them still living in her house. Her husband is a laborer and María is a housewife.

In order to earn her daily livelihood and help her husband with the household expenses, because he doesn't earn much, she sells snacks, fast foods, sodas, waters, and juices, among other things. She works every day from 3pm to 9pm. She has done very well in her business and that's the way she contributes with the household expenses and especially when her husband is out of work. She has more than 23 years in this business which has served to bring her family up.

She is repeating the loan because this is the only way she has to fund her business and to get ahead with her family. Thanks to the profits, she was able to buy food for her family because her husband was out of work for a long time.

Regarding payments, they are always kept up to date because this is very important to her. She wants to pay them so she can continue receiving loans. This loan will be used to buy meat, sodas, juices and other provisions for food preparation. She belongs to the Community Bank since the beginning and she likes it because the loans are provided fast and without many requirements.

Concurrent and Successive Loans

Our Field Partners often work with borrowers over a series of loans as the borrowers build credit, take out bigger loans, and expand their businesses. In order to make it easier for our Field Partners to post loans for borrowers who have been listed on Kiva before, we allow them to post successive and concurrent loans for their Kiva borrowers. This means that our Field Partners are able to post a borrower's second, third, etc., loan on Kiva without having to re-enter all of the borrower's information.

This borrower has been listed on Kiva before, so you'll see an updated loan description, as well as excerpts of the original descriptions from earlier loans. Most borrowers take out loans consecutively, meaning that they receive a second loan after having repaid the first. However, sometimes our Field Partners give out concurrent loans, allowing borrowers to take out one primary loan and a secondary "add-on" loan along with it. These "add-on" loans are typically smaller than the borrower's primary loan and serve a different purpose. Because Field Partners can now post loans as successive and concurrent loans, you will be able to track borrower progress over time and see the various ways a borrower is working with our Field Partners through funds from Kiva’s lenders.
