Antonia del Socorro is 41 years old and a single mother of two school age children. She is originally from the village of la Quimera which is west of león. She is employed as a primary school teacher and she has 20 years of experience. This has allowed her to bring home earnings each day to her family. She is a strong woman and entrepreneurial and she has been the mother and father for her children because she has given them love and ensured their well being without the help of their father.
As a responsible mother, she travels 90km each day in order to arrive at the school where she teaches classes to children with few resources, yet always with the goal of passing on everything she can to her students.
With the intent to improve the conditions of her home, she is seeking financing from Kiva, through Ceprodel, to buy bricks, a toilet and a sink because she currently relies on a latrine in poor condition that make it very dangerous for her family. She hopes that these investments will help her with her need to improve the aforementioned conditions.

This loan is administered by Centro de Promocion del Desarrollo Local (CEPRODEL), one of Kiva’s larger partners in Central America. Founded in 1991 and based in Managua, Nicaragua, CEPRODEL specializes in the development and funding of housing cooperatives for traditionally marginalized communities, the provision of microfinance services to small businesses, and the promotion of innovative renewable energy projects. In addition, unlike many microfinance institutions in the area that have chosen to avoid the rural areas of the country due to the increased financial risk, CEPRODEL provides financial services to numerous clients in the agriculture and livestock industry. Supporting a borrower through CEPRODEL means contributing to the promotion and sustainability of this important work in Nicaragua.
