Ephantus is a 28-year-old farmer in Nkubu County in Kenya where he lives with his wife and two children who are both schooling. He has been in farming for over seven years producing eggs and vegetables, which he sells at the market in his local area.
He is requesting a loan of 30,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to purchase poultry birds. He will later sell the products and earn extra income to help him boost his livelihood and to pay for his children's schooling. He aspires to be raising more than 1,000 poultry birds in the next five years.
The high cost of feed is his major challenge in farming.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
