Bramwel is a 32-year-old farmer in Kitale County in Kenya where he lives with his wife and two children who have not yet started school. He has been in farming for the past five years producing maize and milk, which he sells at the nearby market in his area.
He is requesting a loan of 41,600 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to buy and insure a dairy cow, which will provide him with more milk to sell and earn him extra income to help him uplift his living standards and pay for his children’s schooling in the future. He aspires to have six dairy cows in the next five years.
Competition and unreliable workers are his major challenges in farming.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
