Elizabeth is a mother of four children, the youngest of which still attends school. She lives with her family in a rural area of Central Kenya where she has been practicing farming for 20 years. She grows bananas, maize, vegetables and tea, all of which she sells in a local market. She is requesting a loan for 30,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to help buy supplies for her farm, especially pesticides which will help her grow more vegetables and bananas. Her main challenges are insects and thieves who steal parts of her crop. She applauds Juhudi Kilimo for helping farmers maximize their production.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
