Patrick is 45 years old and has ten solid years of experience in the farming business, with vegetables and milk being his main farm produce for the local market. He is married with two children, one of whom is still schooling.
Patrick has requested a loan of KES 40,000 from Juhudi Kilimo to help him buy poultry birds for a venture into the poultry business. He says this will improve his farming income, hence the family's living standards. He plans to expand his dairy farming with the poultry income since he hopes the poultry business will yield more returns, faster.
Patrick notes drought and animal diseases as the main challenges, but appreciates Juhudi Kilimo for staffing for farmer's training.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
