Murungi is a farmer and a father of two children, ages 10 and 12. His lives with his family in their rural home in the Nkubu area of Central Kenya. His main products are tea, onions, and milk, which he sells to the local market. He has been actively farming for seven years.
Murungi has requested a loan of 50,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo. He will use 30,000 KES to buy a chuff-cutter and 20,000 KES to expand his dairy housing unit. He says this development will increase his dairy income and help improve the living standards of his children.
He says fluctuation in climatic conditions remains his main challenge.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
