Savoern, 57, lives in a rural area in Kampong Cham province’s Ou Reang Ov district. She has two children who work at a garment factory to better support the family. Savoern has been a rice farmer for 28 years, and the current business earns her about 19,000 KHR per day to meet the family’s needs. The main challenge for her family’s business is the lack of water.
This is Savoern's first microloan with VisionFund. She is applying for a loan of 4,000,000 KHR to pay for labor costs to harvest the rice paddy. Savoern will use a portion of the loan to increase her savings for constructing a proper house for her family. She hopes that this loan will enable her to harvest more rice to improve her family’s living standard.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
