Joshua is a farmer in Central Kenya, Nkubu area, where he lives with his family of two children, ages 17 and 13 years. He has been in farming for six years and sells his produce, which includes mainly maize and coffee, to the local market.
Joshua has requested a loan of KES 50,000 from Juhudi Kilimo to buy a water tank and irrigation pipes. He says this will help him boost and diversify his farming business as well as provide income to help educate his children. He plans to buy additional land to expand his farming business.
He says poor infrastructure, pests, and animal diseases are the main challenges to the farming business.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
