Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $575 helped to buy fish to sell.

Meresi's story

Meresi is a 43-year-old widow with six children living in Kasese, Uganda. She has been selling fish for 15 years. She also practices farming in order to supplement her income. Like all good mothers, she desires to educate her children up to the university level and set up sustainable income-generating activities for them in order to secure their future. Lack of sufficient preservation equipment is her major challenge. Her dreams are to buy a refrigerator and trade in wholesale, due to high demand but insufficient supply. Meresi intends to use the loan to buy fish to sell.
