The Retamos de Mazo Cruz communal bank will start their third cycle with Pro Mujer as part of the Centro Focal de Senkata. It is comprised of six members, and it is led by a board of directors. Margarita is the president. The communal bank members carry out a variety of businesses. Among them we have: clothing sales, toys and gifts sales, beauty product sales, shoe sales, grocery sales, footwear sales, and knitting sweaters.

The loan they take will help small businesswomen where Margarita is a member. She says she has been a member of Pro Mujer for three cycles. She joined by invitation from a representative of the institution who went to her house to visit her. She currently has a business knitting sweaters. She set up her business several years ago, learning the technique of knitting from her mother.

The loan she will now take is to increase capital (buy wool). She will get the wool at wholesale stores. After she makes the sweaters she will sell them by order to the businesses in La Paz. This way of working allows her to generate resources to support, as much as possible, her household. She is married and has two children.

When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she said that the likes the training about loans and health.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
