Catherine is a resident of Nkubu and is married with five children, all schooling save for the last born child, age one year. Her farm produce of milk and fruits are sold to the local market.
Catherine has requested a loan of 40,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to buy poultry birds for a venture into poultry farming business. She plans to make savings out of the farming income in order to buy more land for expansion of her farming business.
Catherine says occasional climatic changes lead to poor yields, but she remains optimistic she will be able to cater to her family's needs.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
