San Agustín Group was founded by several neighbours of the town of Mariano Roque Alonso. All members have their own business, but they all help each other to do things together that benefit them as a group. One of the members, Julia, embroiders slippers to help her family with expenses. This is an activity she very much enjoys, since she gets to use her natural creativity, which shines through in each slipper she embroiders. While it is a very demanding job, she is very happy with what she does and wants to be able to keep doing it, which is why she asks for this loan in order to buy the necessary supplies for her trade: slippers, sequins, thread, needles, and others. Thanks to this loan, she will be able to keep working and helping her family.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
