Evans is a farmer, aged 40, in Kisii county in Kenya, where he lives with his wife and four children, of whom only three are in school. He has been in farming for the past ten years, producing milk, maize, beans and sugarcane, which he sells at the local market in his area. He is a carpenter as an additional source of income.
He is requesting a 60,000 KES loan from Juhudi Kilimo to purchase a dairy cow, which will increase his milk production and earn him extra income which will help him raise his living standards. He will also use some of the money to pay for his children's schooling.
Poor markets and poor road networks are his major challenges in farming.
He is very thankful to Juhudi Kilimo for funding him with the loan.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
