In this Group: Majida, Zahraa, Sawsan
Sawsan is the featured borrower in Al Safa Group, she is the one located in the middle. She applied for an Al Majmoua Lebanese Association for Development (Kiva partner) group loan with her friends because they have known each other a long time and they trust each other.

Sawsan is a 26-year-old, married woman who has been working in the women's beauty business for 14 years. She was only 12 years old when she started working in this domain, helping her parents to make a living.

Today, Sawsan is working on her own. She is developing her business as best she can and her loyal customers are supporting her a lot since she is an energetic and enthusiastic person.

Sawsan's applied-for loan from Kiva partner Al Majmoua Lebanese Association for Development will be invested in her baby delivery expenses and she is very much excited to soon see her baby in her hands.

She states that she will put forth so much effort to improve and develop her business and open a beauty salon in the future, transitioning from working from home, to provide her child with a secure, healthy life. She is insisting that she won't let her child face her own family's financial problems and will make sure he will get a suitable education.

Majida is the one on the left. She is 40 years old and single. She has worked in a jam factory for five years and is requesting a loan from Kiva partner Al Majmoua Lebanese Association for Development in order to pay for surgery that she needs to undergo. She hopes that, one day, she will be capable of opening her own factory.

Zahraa is the one on the right. She is 24 years old and single. She has been working as a tutor for two years and is requesting this loan in order to pay for her university fees. Zahraa is a smart girl and she is willing to open a nursery school in the future because she loves dealing a lot with babies.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
