Irene is a 51-year-old woman living in Sebasi, Clarin, Misamis Occidental. She has provided for the needs of her eight kids from the small sum of 8,000 PHP she has been earning monthly from her corn production business for 11 years. Her business is an aid to the income her husband earns from farming. In 2008, Irene joined GDMPC and she is applying for a loan of 15,000 PHP to purchase fertilizers such as manure. She wants to expand her business one day.
Gata Daku Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GDMPC) was founded in 1992 by 32 farmer-members to empower people by providing livelihood opportunities and other support services. Today, it has over 15,000 members located in upland, lowland and coastal regions of the Philippines, and offers credit, savings, education, and various social services.
