Kattia is married and has a school-aged daughter. The family lives in her mother's house, which is located in the Rio Seco neighborhood of the city of El Alto.
Kattia has only a high school education. She currently works selling fast food: sausages, fries, hamburgers, hot dogs, and chicken. Her husband works as a salaried driver in a taxi driver's union in the city of El Alto.
Kattia needs a loan to buy supplies at wholesale, such as: potatoes, rice, and cooking oil. This way she will be able to increase her earnings a bit, because by purchasing at wholesale she can get a lower price for her ingredients.
Kattia's dream is to have a catering service where she could offer her customers not only fast food, but also lunches and dinners. This way, she could improve her family's quality of life and increase her income.
This is the first time that Kattia has requested a loan from IMPRO, and also her first time with Kiva.
IMPRO is a small non-profit organization that has been offering micro credit to the working poor in the Bolivian cities of La Paz and El Alto since 1995. IMPRO’s goal is to fight poverty by offering loans to small business owners who cannot access credit through the regular banking system due to a lack of guarantees or collateral.
To ensure that everyone has access to credit, IMPRO maintains a low interest rate by minimizing operational costs. IMPRO’s partnership with Kiva, which began in 2007, has allowed IMPRO to expand its services while maintaining these low interest rates.
