Daniel is a 55-year-old farmer in Kitale county in Kenya where he lives with his wife and ten children. Three of the children are still in school. Daniel has been in farming for the past eight years, producing eggs and milk which he sells at the local market.
Daniel is requesting a 45,000 KES loan from Juhudi Kilimo to purchase poultry birds. He will later sell the eggs and earn extra income that will help uplift his livelihood. He will use some of the money to pay for his children's schooling. Daniel aspires to have 3,000 poultry birds and be the leading supplier of eggs at his local market.
The high cost of feed, along with pests and diseases for the poultry are Daniel's major challenges in farming.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
