This communal bank is called “Atrévete a Emprender” and is made up of 17 entrepreneurs who have different business, among them are: linen, wallets, table cloths, paper goods, frozen products, clothing sales, and other services. All of them live in the city of Concepcion.

Luisa is a member of the communal bank. In the image she is shown standing in the last row. She is the tallest, wearing a white top and has a pair of sunglasses on her head. She has chestnut hair and wears it long and loose.

She sells sausages and has done so for a month. She says that she works from her home and started offering her sausages by word of mouth. Now her customers visit her in her home to buy in large amounts.

She buys what she needs in San Carlos, where she buys in quantity, at low cost and therefore financially convenient.

She will use the money from this loan to buy sausages in quantity.

One of Luisa’s goals is to continue in her field to attract more customers and supply her business with sausages so that she can generate more income and improve her quality of life. Luisa lives with her husband and four children, ages 20, 15, 12, and 9. Her personal dreams are to study hairstyling and beauty and provide a good financial atmosphere for her family.

She is very happy and grateful for the opportunity given by Fondo Esperanza because it allows her to invest in her business. She says that the training has been fundamental for her business and also for her own personal development because she has learned to organize and distribute her investments and revenues in a better way. As far as her communal bank, she says that there is good communication among the members.

Concepción is located at the mouth of the Biobío river, one of the largest in the country, located in southern Chile, in the Biobío region. It’s the center of important battles and significant settlements, especially during the Arauco war on the border of the Mapuche territory. The city currently has the most important economic, demographic, managerial, financial, and commercial developments in Chile, after Santiago and Valparaiso.

Este Banco Comunal se llama “Atrévete a Emprender” está conformado por 17 emprendedores quienes se dedican a diferentes rubros, entre los cuales se encuentran; lencería, venta de carteras, venta de manteles, bazar, venta de productos congelados, venta de ropa, servicios entre otros. Todos ellos pertenecientes a la ciudad de Concepción.
Luisa, integrante del Banco Comunal , quien en la foto se encuentra de pie en la últimas fila, es la más alta, viste polera de color blanca, en su cabeza sostiene unos lentes de sol, su cabello es de color castaño claro, lo usa largo y suelto.
Ella se dedica al rubro de venta de longanizas desde hace un mes. Comenta que trabaja desde su casa, empezó ofreciendo sus longanizas de voz en voz, ahora su clientela llega sola a su casa para comprar en grandes cantidades.
La mercadería que va necesitando la compra en la ciudad de San Carlos, donde compra por mayor a bajo costo, por lo tanto conveniente económicamente.
Con el crédito comprará longanizas al por mayor.
Una de las metas de Luisa es continuar con el rubro, para abarcar mas clientela y abastecer su negocio de mas longanizas, así con esto generar mayores ingresos y optar a una mejor calidad de vida.
Luisa vive junto a su esposo y cuatro hijos de 20, 15, 12 y 9 años de edad. Sus sueños a nivel personal son estudiar peluquería, todo lo que abarque belleza, y nivel familiar darles un buen pasar económico a su familia.
Ella está muy contenta y agradecida de la oportunidad brindada por Fondo Esperanza, ya que le permitirá invertir en su negocio. Comenta que las capacitaciones han sido fundamentales para su negocio y también para su desarrollo personal, ya que ha aprendido a organizar y distribuir de mejor manera sus ingresos e inversiones, Respecto al grupo del Banco Comunal del cual forma parte, comenta que en éste existe muy buena comunicación.
Concepción, está asentada en la desembocadura del río Biobío, uno de los más grandes del país, al sur de Chile, en la región del Bíobío. Siendo sede de importantes batallas y asentamiento relevante, especialmente durante la Guerra de Arauco, por estar en la frontera con territorio mapuche. Actualmente la ciudad posee un importante desarrollo económico y demográfico, llegando a ser considerada como uno de los núcleos urbanos, demográfico, administrativo, financiero y comercial más relevantes de Chile, después de Santiago y Valparaíso.

About Fondo Esperanza

Fondo Esperanza (FE) is a private non-profit organization that supports entrepreneurship by providing micro-credit and training to people living in poverty in well over 100 cities throughout Chile. By providing these services, FE aims to improve the living conditions of the entrepreneurs and their families. In 2010, FE provided loans to more than 41,000 entrepreneurs. It utilizes a communal banking model in which groups of 18 to 25 clients meet on regularly and guarantee each other’s loans. The members use their portion of the loan to create or expand their own businesses. In the group meetings, clients receive training though the FE Entrepreneurship School, which enhances clients’ personal and business skills and ability to work in groups.

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
