In this Group: Let, Phen
Let, 32, is married with two children residing in a rural village of the Moung Russey district of Battambang province. To support the family, Let has been farming rice for three years while her husband works as a carpenter in the local area to earn additional income for the family. Together, they can earn about KHR 20,000 per day and can save about KHR 10,000 each day for their future needs.

Let’s group consists of two members who are both female. Let has been with VisionFund for one cycle and completely paid back the past loan and the other member has been with VisionFund for six cycles. Now Let is leading this group to request another loans of KHR 1,000,000 for each member. As the leader, she is going to use her portion to renovate her old house. She hopes this loan will enable her to have a decent house to live in.

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
