Choern
A married mother of two children, Choern is aged fifty and living in a rural village of the Tbaung Khmum district of Kampong Cham province, Cambodia. She has two children, both of whom are dependent on her and still in school.

To feed her family, she grows cassava as the main source of the family’s income and she has been in this business for fifteen years. Her husband also supplements the income by working for others for a fee.

Choern has been with VisionFund for six loan cycles and completely paid back the past loans, which have helped her in relieving her family’s burden and improve their livelihood. Now she is requesting a loan of 3,000,000 KHR to renovate her old house. She hopes this loan will enable her to have a decent house for living in.

About VisionFund Cambodia

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
