Saroeub is 22 years old and married. She resides in a rural village of the Thmor Koul district with her husband and two small children, both of whom are too young for schooling. For the past five years, she has earned a living through farming rice on a two-hectare plot of farmland as her main business. Her husband works as a paid worker to help supplement family’s income. Together, they can earn about 40,000 KHR per day.
Saroeub has been a member of VisionFund for one cycle and she successfully used her previous loan to sufficiently feed her family. To support her family’s business, she is applying for another loan of 2,500,000 KHR with VisionFund and she will use this loan to buy fertilizers and rice seeds for her farmland. With this loan, she hopes to increase her crop yields and sell it for a larger profit so as to improve her standard of living.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
