Residing in a rural village of Tbaung Khmum district, located in Kampong Cham province in Cambodia, Sareoun is divorced. She is 43 years old and has one child.
To offer a decent life for her family, Sareoun works as a rice farmer and factory worker. Each day, she is able to earn around 13,000 Cambodia riels (KHR) and manages to save about 6,000 KHR after deducting the cost of living.
Sareoun is applying for a loan of 4,000,000 KHR with VisionFund, a Kiva partner, for the first time. She plans on using a portion of this loan to buy fertilizer to help keep her rice field in good shape. The other portion of the loan will be spent on finishing building her house.
This single mother expects a boost in her income after receiving the requested loan so that she can use the income to relieve her family’s burden as well as secure the family’s finances.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
