Enrique, a 58-year-old married father of four children, resides in Militar, Tukuran, Zamboanga del Sur, Philippines. For five years he has operated a fishing business, selling seafood products including fish and shrimp in the local community, each month earning 13,150 PHP.
Enrique joined GDMPC in 2011 and is requesting a loan of 25,000 PHP to purchase fishing equipment including hooks and nets. In the future, he wants to save earnings as a reserve for future emergencies.
Gata Daku Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GDMPC) was founded in 1992 by 32 farmer-members to empower people by providing livelihood opportunities and other support services. Today, it has over 15,000 members located in upland, lowland and coastal regions of the Philippines, and offers credit, savings, education, and various social services.
