William is a father of three children and has been in the farming business for six successive years, in his rural home in Kitale, Western Kenya. He runs his farm with the help of one farmhand, currently, and he sells his produce of milk, eggs and tomatoes.
William has requested a loan of 36,400 KES from Juhudi Kilimo, to buy and insure a dairy cow. He aspires to run a farm of five, good-quality dairy cows. In addition, he wants to establish a grain milling machine in the local market, for additional income.
William says the shortage of animal feeds remains the major challenge to him. He says the income from the new dairy cow will help boost his family business.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
