Catherine is a resident of Kitale, where she lives with her husband and two children, aged 17 and 2 years. She has been in farming for seven years and currently produces milk and eggs for the local market.
Catherine has made a loan request amounting to 41,600 KES from Juhudi Kilimo. She will channel the loan into purchasing and insuring one dairy cow. She is optimistic she will generate more income and acquire four more dairy cows within the next four years.
Catherine mentions the shortage of animal feed during dry seasons and animal diseases as the major challenges.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
