About Solar Sister

Solar Sister is a nonprofit organization that distributes clean, affordable solar technology while empowering women with economic opportunity. The organization sells a variety of solar products through a growing sales network of local women. It provides each of them with a “business in a bag” containing approximately ten products to be sold at a profit. Saleswomen repay Solar Sister for this initial inventory on a monthly basis.

Kiva loans are used to fund these upfront inventory kits, allowing Solar Sister to invest more of its revenue in growth. During the course of this loan, this Solar Sister Entrepreneur will sell the inventory she purchases with these funds, repay Solar Sister, and access more product. Borrowers that are reliable saleswomen may leverage these loan funds multiple times during the course of this loan.
