A loan of $775 helped a member to purchase hybrid seeds and fertilizer for the cultivation of maize and sorghum.

Nehema Group's story

Nehema Group is located in Lugari District. It is a group of 13 women and 5 men led by Sarah pictured on the right with her hand raised. She is receiving an input loan for ½ an acre of maize and sorghum cultivation. Sarah joined One Acre Fund during the Long Rains 2012, and is now enrolling in the Long Rains 2013 season. Sarah joined One Acre Fund in order to gain access to hybrid seed and fertilizer. Sarah also thinks that One Acre Fund will be able to help her.

Sarah described her harvest as very good last year as a One Acre Fund farmer and hopes for another good year in the 2013 Long Rains season. Her biggest concern is sending her children to school. She plans on using future profits from the harvest to support her children’s studies. Additionally, she would like to help the needy in the village and continue being a One Acre Fund farmer. For the 2013 Long Rains season, Sarah’s group members will take input loans of ½ an acre each. In total, this group will receive input loans for use on 9 acres of land.

Beatrice and Annah chose to drop from Nehema Group after the Kiva photo was taken. They are still pictured above.
