Ang is a 47-year-old married mother of four children, three of whom are dependent on her and still in school. She lives in a rural area of the Kandal Stoeng district of the Kandal province. To make a living, she farms rice on one hectare of farmland, and her husband works as a cook to earn additional income for the family. Having been in this business for 20 years, she is able to earn about $10 per day and manages to save about $3 each day after deducting daily expenses.
Ang has been with VisionFund for two cycles. She completely paid back the loans, which have helped her to better support her children’s education. Now, she is requesting a loan of $1,000 to buy fertilizer for her farmland and use a portion of it to buy a decent motor for commuting. She hopes this loan will enable her to earn more income to improve her living conditions.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
