Sokny lives in a rural village of Kampong Cham province’s Ponhea Krek district in Cambodia. She is married and has five children. Two of her daughters are school-aged children and are still dependent on her. To provide resources for the family, Sokny farms rice and plants cassava, which enables her to earn about USD 14 per day. This will be Sokny’s second loan via VisionFund, Kiva’s partner. Her previous loan helped her to improve the living standard of her family. Sokny is now requesting a USD 1,500 loan to buy fertilizer and to pay wages to farm laborers. This industrious woman dreams of running another business in the future: growing rubber. Sokny would love to dedicate the effort that she has put into her work to moving her family ahead and supporting her children’s education.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
