Marichu's main source of income comes from planting and harvesting corn for sale. She is 30 years old, married and has three children. She is from Kinuman Norte, Ozamiz City and has been in farming for four years, earning an amount of 3,000 Philippines pesos (PHP) a month.
In 2009, Marichu joined GDMPC. Marichu is requesting a loan of 10,500 PHP, which will be used to purchase fertilizers such as manure. She plans to use the additional revenue generated from the business to improve the general living conditions of her family.
Gata Daku Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GDMPC) was founded in 1992 by 32 farmer-members to empower people by providing livelihood opportunities and other support services. Today, it has over 15,000 members located in upland, lowland and coastal regions of the Philippines, and offers credit, savings, education, and various social services.
